Product Engineer (Backend)

Location: Remote in Europe; remote work is also permitted from within the European Union. Occasional team events, workshops, or meetings may take place in the Berlin or Stuttgart offices.

What you will do

• Build reliable and scalable product experiences with deep ownership of backend systems.
• Develop APIs, data models, infrastructure, and user-facing features across the full product journey.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and AI.
• Understand user problems, shape product decisions, rapidly prototype solutions, and validate ideas.
• Carry features through rollout and observe their impact using instrumentation and experimentation where appropriate.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with Kotlin or Java and a web framework such as Micronaut or Spring.
• Experience working on SaaS products in Agile environments.
• Backend specialization combined with willingness to contribute to web, mobile, or infrastructure work.
• Comfort using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot, or willingness to adopt them.
• Strong engineering judgment, curiosity, adaptability, ownership, and willingness to learn.

Nice to have

• Experience pairing with designers or working from mockups and prototypes.
• Experience with instrumentation, A/B testing, Grafana, or Mixpanel.
• Experience deploying with Kubernetes and Helm.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or messaging systems such as RabbitMQ and Apache Kafka.
