TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Distributed Systems/Machine Learning): Designing, building, and optimizing high-throughput backend systems for Grab’s ride-hailing platform with an accent on scalability, real-time processing, and reliability. Focus on developing distributed services for hundreds of millions of daily requests, solving complex production issues, and collaborating across product, analytics, mobile, QA, and ML teams.
Location: Onsite in Beijing, China

What you will do
- Design, build, and optimize critical backend systems powering the ride-hailing platform.
- Work with Product, Design, and Analytics teams to clarify requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and define delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with Android, iOS, backend, QA, and ML engineers to implement scalable technical solutions.
- Write reusable, scalable, and testable code and ensure high-quality feature delivery.
- Review code and engineering specifications, participate in on-call support, and troubleshoot complex production issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems environments.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Go, C++, Python, or a similar language.
- Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and system design principles.
- Experience developing large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems.
- Knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, NoSQL databases, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
