Optical Hardware Engineer (Sunnyvale, CA.)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; hybrid work with up to 3 days per week in the office

Base salary: USD 135,500–275,000 annually in California, excluding possible variable incentives.

What you will do

• Develop pluggable optical and electrical transceiver and cable assembly specifications based on IEEE, OIF, SNIA SFF, and related MSA standards.
• Collaborate with optical transceiver suppliers on product definitions, specifications, and requirements.
• Create verification plans, build optical and electrical test stations, and conduct characterization and qualification testing.
• Develop test automation and software for executing tests, processing data, and generating reports.
• Work with Signal Integrity, System Hardware, and Software Engineering teams to integrate optics into routing, switching, and security systems.
• Support customer-service root cause analysis, external optics certification, and interoperability testing with third-party networking equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years of optical transceiver module specification and testing experience.
• Knowledge of optical module testing according to current IEEE standards and MSA specifications.
• Knowledge of optical and electrical test equipment and automation software used for testing optical modules and interfaces.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a multidisciplinary team and clearly present test results.
