TL;DR
Silicon Photonics Test Engineer (Silicon Photonics): Developing and validating photonic integrated circuits, optical subsystems, reference modules, and advanced optical interconnect platforms with an accent on automated instrumentation, high-speed optical and electrical characterization, and PAM4 performance testing. Focus on building test environments, analyzing BER and eye-diagram data, calibrating RF probes, and solving integration challenges across photonics, RFIC, packaging, firmware, and manufacturing teams.

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States. Hybrid work model with time split between the assigned hirify.global site and off-site work.

Annual salary: $122,440–$232,190 USD.

Company

hirify.global designs and manufactures silicon products and technologies for connected digital experiences.

What you will do

  • Develop, own, and execute validation for silicon photonics products, including PICs, EICs, optical subsystems, reference modules, and optical interconnect platforms.
  • Build software and automated test environments to control VNAs, LCAs, AWGs, oscilloscopes, bit-error-rate testers, SMUs, and optical instrumentation.
  • Characterize modulators, photodetectors, integrated lasers, optical engines, RF drivers, TIAs, ADCs, and DACs.
  • Validate 100G/lane and 200G/lane PAM4 transmitters and receivers, including FRO, LRO, LPO, and NPO modules.
  • Collect and analyze small-signal, large-signal, BER, and eye-diagram performance data, then prepare validation reports and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with silicon photonics, RFIC, packaging and thermal, firmware, manufacturing test, NPI, and product engineering teams to support subsystem integration and technical problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience, Master’s degree with 3+ years, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience testing and validating silicon photonics devices, RFICs, or optical communication subsystems.
  • Experience with PICs, RF probes and probe stations, evaluation-board-based optical subsystems, and high-speed electrical and optical measurement equipment.
  • Experience testing optoelectronic devices such as lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and optical interconnect technologies.
  • Strong programming skills for instrument control, automation, and data processing, including Python and data analytics tools.
  • Experience with VNA/LCA platforms, AWGs, DCAMs, high-speed oscilloscopes, optical test equipment, and RF probe calibration using calibration substrates.

Nice to have

  • Experience with 100G/lane and 200G/lane PAM4 DSP, RF drivers, TIAs, microcontrollers, DACs, ADCs, power supplies, and SMUs.
  • Experience with C++ or equivalent software platforms, optical transceiver testing, and calibration methodologies.
  • Knowledge of optoelectronic device and RFIC physics, optical transceiver MSA requirements, and 800G/1.6T DR8, FR4, LPO, and LRO technologies.
  • Experience using AI tools for code generation, debugging, and deployment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work model combining on-site and off-site work.
  • Competitive pay with stock bonuses.
  • Health, retirement, and vacation benefits.
  • Cross-functional collaboration across hardware, firmware, photonics, packaging, thermal, optics, manufacturing, and NPI disciplines.
