Senior Engineer Operational Excellence (Biotech)

Location: On-site full-time in Durham, North Carolina, United States; work spans office, production, and executive settings.

Annual base pay: $94,000–$125,000, plus potential bonus or incentives.

What you will do

• Develop operational dashboards, visualizations, and automated KPI reporting for laboratory and operational workflows.
• Analyze process data and apply statistical process control and quality control methods to identify trends, variation, and deviations.
• Execute Lean initiatives, including 5S, Kaizen events, Six Sigma projects, root cause analyses, and CAPAs.
• Track operational issues, risks, backlogs, and improvement opportunities while leading prioritization with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Software, and Product teams to translate operational needs into technical requirements and scale process improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience in process engineering, operations, or continuous improvement, ideally in biotech, diagnostics, or manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies.
• Experience with Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI, data visualization, and statistical analysis.
• Familiarity with SPC/QC tools, NGS, clinical laboratory operations, diagnostics workflows, and regulated environments such as CLIA, CAP, or FDA.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, attention to detail, and data accuracy skills.

Nice to have

• Lean or Six Sigma certification.
• Experience in regulated biotech, diagnostics, or manufacturing environments.
