Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer (Biotech)

Location: Onsite in Raheen, Limerick, Ireland

What you will do

• Act as the primary instrumentation and controls representative on multidisciplinary projects from concept development through design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover.
• Provide technical leadership for instrumentation and control systems across manufacturing, utility, and facility infrastructure projects.
• Specify and evaluate field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, load cells, pH, conductivity, TOC, UV, and analytical instruments.
• Lead design reviews and approve instrumentation philosophies, P&IDs, instrument indexes, I/O lists, control narratives, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, panel designs, and vendor packages.
• Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, Operations, Quality, engineering consultants, system integrators, and construction contractors.
• Support troubleshooting, root cause investigations, obsolescence assessments, instrument upgrades, FAT, SAT, commissioning, qualification, and startup activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of engineering experience with increasing responsibility in instrumentation, controls, and automation systems.
• Experience leading I&C engineering activities for projects in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of process instrumentation, industrial control systems, and GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
