Senior Packaging Engineer (Pharmaceutical Packaging)

Location: New Albany, Ohio, United States; hands-on work on the manufacturing floor is required

A biotechnology company researching, manufacturing, and delivering medicines across oncology, inflammation, general medicine, and rare disease.

What you will do

• Provide day-to-day technical support and real-time troubleshooting for commercial packaging operations.
• Investigate deviations, non-conformances, and packaging events through root cause analysis and CAPA implementation.
• Improve packaging line efficiency, reduce downtime, and minimize waste.
• Evaluate and qualify pharmaceutical packaging materials, including material changes and supplier issues.
• Develop test protocols, technical assessments, and documentation for material and process changes.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, QA, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Regulatory teams while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree, or a relevant master's degree with 2 years of experience, bachelor's degree with 4 years, associate degree with 8 years, or high school diploma/GED with 10 years of Engineering, Materials Science, or Industrial Design experience.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or Industrial Design is preferred.
• At least 5 years of pharmaceutical packaging experience with strong commercial manufacturing support exposure is preferred.
• Hands-on GMP manufacturing experience, including deviation management and root cause analysis.
• Strong knowledge of glass, polymers, adhesives, inks, varnishes, and paper used in pharmaceutical packaging.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills; experience leading or mentoring team members is preferred.
