Summer 2027 - Mechanical Engineering Intern (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Seattle, Washington or Dallas, Texas. The internship runs for 10 weeks, with start dates of June 1 or June 22, 2027.

Salary: $38–$65 per hour, determined by academic level.

What you will do

• Gather requirements, design, and validate multiple test stands for components and subsystems on X-BAT and V-BAT aircraft.
• Design tooling for holding devices under test during environmental testing.
• Develop test stands and fixtures for engines, electric motors, circuit boards, and other aeronautical components.
• Specify electrical, plumbing, and other facility requirements for environmental test chambers.
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews and advocate for simpler testing processes.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, programming, physics, and mathematics fundamentals.
• Experience with multidisciplinary hardware development through an internship, job, club, team, or personal project.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ownership of project outcomes, high standards, teamwork, and reliable execution.
• Must be available to start on either June 1 or June 22, 2027, and work on-site in Seattle or Dallas.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, or CATIA; NX is preferred.
• Ability to rapidly manufacture designs in a machine shop.
• Experience designing, tuning, or assembling internal combustion engines.
• Experience designing mechanical tooling or test fixtures.
• Adaptability and the ability to innovate under pressure.
