TL;DR
Battalion Chief (Emergency Response): Leading refinery fire department personnel and volunteer brigades during fire suppression, medical response, hazardous materials, rescue, security, and oil spill incidents with an accent on incident command, unified command, and emergency action planning. Focus on coordinating multi-agency responses, managing off-site mutual aid emergencies, and maintaining readiness through rotating twelve-hour shifts and mandatory training.
Location: Richmond, California, United States. Onsite role with a rotating twelve-hour schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Relocation within parameters will be considered; international assignments will not be considered.
Salary: $104,700–$180,500 per year.

What you will do
- Lead Fire Department personnel and volunteer fire brigade members during fire prevention, suppression, medical, hazardous materials, rescue, security, and oil spill incidents.
- Establish the Incident Command System and act as refinery management in charge until relieved.
- Implement Unified Command with federal, state, local, and authorities.
- Coordinate with municipal, mutual aid, Richmond Fire, and Richmond Police departments during emergency situations.
- Respond to off-site emergencies under mutual aid agreements and participate in all required crew training.
- Maintain fitness-for-duty qualifications and participate in the Corporate Medical program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience in an emergency response organization, including at least 3 years of leadership experience.
- ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-300, ICS-700, and ICS-800 certifications.
- Current California Class C Firefighter and/or Commercial Class A or B Firefighters driver’s license, plus Firefighter I certification or equivalent.
- Emergency Medical Technician and Haz-Mat FRO, Technician, or Specialist certifications.
- TWIC credential, or ability to acquire one within the first 6 months. The role is safety-sensitive and requires mandatory random drug screenings.
Nice to have
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in emergency response, emergency management, or a related field.
- Rescue Systems Level 1 certification or equivalent.
