S&S Technical Writer (UAS)

Location: Bingen, Washington, United States; on-site 90% of the time. Travel required: 10% domestic and international. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Salary: $83,000–$124,000 per year, depending on geographic differential, skills, experience, and other factors.

Develops and supports the Flexrotor vertical take-off and landing unmanned aircraft system for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance missions.

What you will do

• Create and maintain manufacturing work instructions, operations and maintenance manuals, software guides, system specifications, service bulletins, and operator documentation.
• Gather and validate technical information with engineers, developers, manufacturing, training, product teams, and subject matter experts.
• Organize documentation according to aerospace writing standards and translate complex technical and operational information into accessible content.
• Lead cross-functional documentation and curriculum projects, managing deadlines, deliverables, stakeholder input, and content validation.
• Keep customer documentation current and aligned with Flexrotor UAS technology, operational procedures, FAA, DoD, and other regulatory requirements.
• Improve documentation processes and ways of working across aircraft manufacturing and operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Aerospace, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on technical writing experience.
• Strong writing, editing, analytical, problem-solving, project management, and collaboration skills.
• Experience explaining complex technical information through manufacturing documentation, operational manuals, software documentation, system specifications, or API documentation.
• Experience with content management systems such as MadCap Flare, Heretto, Paligo, or Adobe FrameMaker.
• Knowledge of FAA regulations and standards related to UAS operations and training, plus experience with Simplified Technical English or similar.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Aerospace, or an equivalent field.
• Experience with unmanned aerial systems or related aviation fields.
• Experience with HTML, XML, or other markup languages.
