Software Engineer in Test III (Fintech)

Location: Chicago, IL; remote candidates are not accepted. Hybrid schedule with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday and remote work on Mondays and Fridays, plus 20 additional flex remote days annually and five office-optional weeks.

Salary: $82,000–$132,000 USD annually, plus a 10% annual target bonus.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end quality for a product squad, from test strategy through release confidence.
• Partner with engineers and product managers to define acceptance criteria and build testability into product design.
• Design, develop, and maintain Playwright automation in TypeScript and JavaScript using Page Object Model patterns.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and establish smoke and regression quality gates.
• Analyze and eliminate test flakiness, perform exploratory testing, and convert findings into durable automated coverage.
• Contribute to shared frameworks, review code, mentor junior QA team members, and apply AI-assisted development tools to improve testing productivity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in QA engineering and test automation.
• Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Experience with Page Object Model or modular test architecture.
• Experience shaping application architecture and API design for reliable automation and integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong understanding of test design principles, the software testing life cycle, and responsible AI-assisted engineering in production QA.
• Ability to work in the Chicago hybrid schedule and collaborate in person with engineers and product managers.

Nice to have

• Experience testing real-time or data-intensive web applications.
• API automation testing experience.
• Accessibility testing knowledge, including WCAG standards.
• Experience with trading platforms or fintech.
