Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Camera Model)

Location: Remote in the United States, or hybrid from the Ann Arbor, Michigan or Blacksburg, Virginia offices

Salary: $177,300–$212,800 USD annually, plus potential bonus, stock options, and other compensation.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy deep learning models for camera-based perception, including object detection, segmentation, depth estimation, and scene understanding.
• Own end-to-end model development from data curation and training through evaluation and deployment.
• Build production-quality machine learning code, training pipelines, evaluation workflows, and inference systems.
• Analyze model performance across driving scenarios, identify failure modes, and improve robustness and generalization.
• Collaborate with data, perception, simulation, validation, and infrastructure teams to integrate models into the autonomy stack.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, improve experimentation tooling, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of industry experience, Master’s degree with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ years in a related technical field.
• Experience developing and deploying deep learning models for computer vision or perception systems.
• Strong Python and PyTorch programming skills, including production-quality machine learning code.
• Experience with large-scale datasets, distributed compute environments, model evaluation, debugging, and reliability improvements.
• Understanding of modern perception architectures such as CNNs, transformers, and multi-task models.
• Ability to translate ambiguous problems into structured machine learning solutions and collaborate across robotics or autonomy systems.

Nice to have

• Experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or simulation-based machine learning.
• Experience with multi-task learning, unified perception architectures, Ray, large-scale data pipelines, or experiment management frameworks.
• Knowledge of camera calibration, geometric reasoning, BEV, monocular depth, or structure-from-motion.
• Experience deploying machine learning models into production or real-world robotics systems.
