TL;DR
Product Development Specialist (Optical Mechanics): Developing optical mechanical solutions and system models with an accent on adhesive mechanics, thin film mechanics, materials performance, and experimental validation. Focus on leading mechanical modeling, solving interfacial failure and fracture mechanics challenges, coordinating cross-functional laboratory work, and generating intellectual property.

Location: On-site at least four days per week at hirify.global Center in Maplewood, Minnesota, United States

Salary: $145,676–$178,049 per year, including base pay and variable incentive pay if eligible.

What you will do

  • Contribute to and coordinate complex technical projects developing new optical mechanical solutions.
  • Lead mechanical modeling to build fundamental understanding of adhesive and thin film mechanics in optical system product development.
  • Engage with key customers to understand technical challenges, develop first-principles theoretical models, and communicate research results.
  • Coordinate test method development and laboratory experiments to validate material performance in system models.
  • Provide technical guidance on critical material performance characteristics and their impact on system performance.
  • Generate intellectual property, including invention submissions, patents, and trade secrets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline.
  • At least five years of experience in mechanical modeling and applied mechanics.
  • Experience developing and analyzing mechanical models using multiple technologies and techniques.
  • Strong mechanical fundamentals, communication, collaboration, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work on-site at least four days per week in Maplewood, Minnesota.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or higher in physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or materials science.
  • Experience with adhesive or soft-material modeling, interfacial failures, and fracture mechanics.
  • Experience analyzing mechanical stresses and their effect on optical system performance.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and defining material performance targets.
