Base salary: $110,000–$180,000 annually

What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain test fixtures, rigs, and setups for mechanical, thermal, vibration, shock, durability, and environmental testing.
- Develop and execute test plans for precision optical mounts, alignment stages, beam delivery assemblies, and other enrichment hardware.
- Instrument test articles and collect, reduce, and analyze data to evaluate pass/fail criteria and design margins.
- Perform coupon- and component-level materials testing, including fatigue, corrosion, wear, and thermal cycling.
- Investigate test failures, identify root causes, and verify corrective actions with design engineers.
- Own test documentation and collaborate with mechanical, optical, materials, manufacturing, and nuclear engineers to improve designs and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical testing, environmental testing, or hardware qualification through projects, research, internships, or professional work.
- Hands-on experience designing and building test fixtures and instrumented test setups.
- Working knowledge of vibration, shock, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, durability, and fatigue testing.
- Ability to work directly with laboratory hardware and troubleshoot instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.
Nice to have
- Materials science or metallurgy experience, particularly failure analysis, fatigue, corrosion testing, or performance of metals and alloys in extreme conditions.
- Experience testing precision optical or photonic hardware, including alignment repeatability, beam stability, or thermal management.
- Experience with sensors, data acquisition systems, and test automation.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and statistical methods for interpreting test data.
- Experience in a fast-paced, highly technical, or entrepreneurial engineering environment.
