Principal Software Engineer (Elasticsearch)

Location: Norway

Salary: 949,500–1,502,000 NOK base salary per year; no variable compensation.

What you will do

• Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of hirify.globalsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
• Provide technical vision and direction for indexing, retrieval, query execution, and relevance layers.
• Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
• Collaborate with partner and product teams to shape long-term technical roadmaps.
• Serve as a technical authority for hirify.globalsearch domains and mentor expert engineers.
• Build and improve robust, high-performance software for large-scale search systems.

Requirements

• Experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Experience defining technical vision for core search or retrieval systems across teams and organizations.
• Hands-on experience with hirify.globalsearch, Lucene, Solr, or comparable search and indexing technologies.
• Strong Java skills, including advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features.
• Experience operating large-scale search systems or distributed storage engines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in distributed teams.

Nice to have

• Experience building open-source projects.
• Familiarity with different source-control workflows and continuous integration.
