TL;DR
Staff AI Engineer (Generative AI): Building and operating Research Flow’s generative AI applications, enterprise RAG systems, agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks, and scalable ML infrastructure with an accent on reliability, quality, security, and production performance. Focus on designing AI architectures, improving retrieval and model evaluation, and connecting experimentation to dependable customer experiences across teams.
Location: Remote within the UK, Ireland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, or the Netherlands

What you will do
- Shape the technical direction and architecture of Research Flow, including AI-assisted study design, adaptive conversations, and research synthesis.
- Design, prototype, and deliver generative AI applications using large language models, RAG, vector search, tool use, and agentic systems.
- Build reusable AI services, APIs, machine learning pipelines, and infrastructure with Python, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Kafka, Airflow, and MLflow.
- Define evaluation strategies and automated benchmarks for accuracy, relevance, reliability, fairness, latency, and cost.
- Improve retrieval quality, production monitoring, security, privacy, reliability, and safeguards against unexpected model behaviour.
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and connect AI investments to measurable customer outcomes.
Requirements
- Significant experience building and operating production machine learning or AI systems, with technical leadership beyond individual projects.
- Strong Python and software engineering skills, including production services and APIs with frameworks such as FastAPI.
- Practical experience with generative AI, large language models, enterprise RAG, retrieval architecture, chunking, embeddings, reranking, evaluation, and monitoring.
- Experience with PyTorch, LangChain, LangGraph, vector databases, event-driven processing, and machine learning lifecycle tools.
- Strong experience operating cloud systems with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and continuous integration and deployment practices.
- Experience with observability, production diagnostics, technical decision-making across teams, and mentoring engineers.
Nice to have
- Experience in a B2B SaaS product company or with conversational AI, adaptive interviewing, automated analysis, or summarisation.
- Experience with text, audio, or video AI applications and shared AI platforms used by multiple product teams.
- Experience with Airflow, Argo Workflows, SQL, Spark, Snowflake, or comparable data-processing technologies.
- Experience with AI security, privacy, responsible AI, prompt-injection protection, or data-leakage prevention.
