Senior Test Engineer (QA Automation)

Location: Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh, United Kingdom; hybrid working with up to an average of 1 day per week onsite

Salary: up to £75,360 per year depending on experience, plus annual bonus and benefits

What you will do

• Design and execute functional and performance testing for complex technology solutions.
• Identify defects, performance bottlenecks and quality risks before production.
• Develop and enhance automated testing frameworks and tooling within modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Plan and run performance, load, resilience and scalability testing activities.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, stakeholders and third-party suppliers on business-critical initiatives.
• Apply modern testing techniques, share technical expertise and promote quality engineering best practices.

Requirements

• Proven experience in software testing and quality engineering across complex technology environments.
• Strong automation testing skills, including building and maintaining automated test frameworks in CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with performance, load, resilience and scalability testing.
• Experience delivering testing through Agile methodologies and structured project approaches.
• Ability to balance quality, risk and delivery commitments across complex, time-bound initiatives.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement based in Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh, with regular office attendance.

Nice to have

• Financial Services experience, particularly insurance platforms covering quoting, policy administration, claims, underwriting or customer servicing.
• Experience with JMeter or LoadRunner.
• Knowledge of API, integration and microservices testing in distributed systems.
• Line management experience in a technology or engineering function.
