Lead Data Scientist, Core, Level 6

Location: Bellevue, Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Seattle, United States. Default Together policy requires working in an office 4+ days per week.

Base salary: $195,000–$343,000 annually, depending on U.S. pay zone. The position is also eligible for RSU equity.

What you will do

• Serve as a subject matter expert in experimentation and causal inference methodologies.
• Lead medium to large data science projects across multiple groups and stakeholders.
• Architect, implement, and maintain scalable statistics, machine learning, and data products for internal tooling.
• Analyze data sources, test hypotheses, identify patterns, and translate findings into product opportunities and strategy.
• Partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and cross-functional leaders to influence decision-making and executive priorities.
• Deliver the data science and analytics roadmap, including reporting, measurement, insights share-outs, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of post-Bachelor’s experience in quantitative analysis or data science; alternatively, a relevant Master’s degree with 6+ years of post-graduate experience or a PhD with 3+ years of post-graduate experience.
• Advanced statistical analysis skills and experience with computational packages such as SciPy, statsmodels, EconML, or equivalent R ecosystems.
• Strong knowledge of predictive modeling, machine learning, experimentation, and causal inference.
• Expertise in SQL, Python or R, and data orchestration pipelines.
• Ability to lead projects independently, communicate complex statistical concepts, and balance business needs with scientific rigor.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in a quantitative or technical field.
• Experience leading teams responsible for data capture, measurement, and optimization.
• Experience in a product-focused role within social media, online advertising, digital media, or mobile technology.
• Experience with causal inference modeling, advanced statistical methods, and A/B testing at scale.
