Sr. Engineering Manager, AI and Agents

Salary: $188,000–$301,000 annually for the Santa Monica office; pay varies by work location.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, develop, and scale AI engineering teams and technical leaders across multiple use-case pods and shared platform initiatives.
• Own architecture, delivery, quality, production operation, cost, latency, and reliability for LLM-based systems, agents, and integrations.
• Guide development of shared AI platform capabilities, including evaluation pipelines, behavioral testing, prompt and model management, observability, DLP guardrails, and agent frameworks.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Legal, Compliance, Security, and business leaders to prioritize work, manage tradeoffs, and establish governance standards.
• Set engineering practices for planning, design reviews, code reviews, on-call operations, incident management, and cross-team dependency management.
• Develop reusable AI engineering standards, patterns, playbooks, and knowledge-sharing practices for safe and scalable adoption.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including production AI/ML or GenAI systems, and 3+ years managing or leading engineers and engineering teams.
• Experience leading multiple technical engineering teams and leaders in a matrixed organization.
• Deep knowledge of LLM application architecture, including RAG, agents, tool use, prompt engineering, fine-tuning trade-offs, evaluation, MLOps, and LLMOps.
• Hands-on experience shipping and operating production AI services, APIs, orchestration, cloud infrastructure, monitoring, and cost and latency optimization.
• Experience designing AI evaluation and behavioral measurement systems to gate releases and improve quality.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience; strong communication and executive influence skills.

Nice to have

• Healthcare, pharmaceutical, finance, or other regulated-industry experience.
• Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, responsible AI practices, and data protection controls.
• Experience with agentic systems, MCP, enterprise agent platforms, or AI evaluation tooling.
• Experience integrating AI into consumer-scale products.
