Principal Data Engineer (Biologics Discovery)

Location: Onsite at Spring House, Pennsylvania; Titusville, New Jersey; or Raritan, New Jersey, United States. No remote option.

Base pay: $117,000–$201,250 annually, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Design and deliver AI-ready discovery data products for analytics, machine learning, insight generation, and agentic AI workflows.
• Define scalable integration requirements, transformation patterns, schemas, data contracts, and acceptance criteria.
• Translate scientific and analytical needs into reusable data product specifications in partnership with scientists, AI/ML teams, and technology partners.
• Establish data quality, metadata, provenance, lineage, reproducibility, documentation, and FAIR data practices.
• Catalog discovery instruments, data types, and data sources to guide product prioritization and integration.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, standards development, cross-functional initiatives, mentorship, and code reviews.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related computational field.
• 8+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, 5+ years with a master’s degree, or 3+ years with a Ph.D. designing and delivering data products, data models, and analytics-ready datasets in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences organizations.
• Advanced Python and SQL skills, with experience building reusable and scalable data assets on cloud platforms such as Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or BigQuery.
• Experience with FAIR data principles, metadata management, controlled vocabularies, data lineage, and provenance in scientific data environments.
• Proven technical leadership and ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and establish standards across stakeholder groups.
• Work must be performed at one of the listed United States office locations; remote work is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with ontologies, semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, or ontology-driven data architectures.
• Experience in biologics discovery, high-throughput experimentation, or CRO/CDMO data integration.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, containers, orchestration, and monitoring.
• Prior technical mentorship or leadership responsibilities.
