Scientist, Research Data Modeling (AI)

Location: Princeton, New Jersey, United States; hybrid working environment

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus bonuses and benefits

What you will do

• Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for scientific and research data domains.
• Work with scientists and business stakeholders to capture data needs and translate requirements into practical data structures.
• Collaborate with data engineers and platform teams to implement models in Databricks and other enterprise data platforms.
• Apply FAIR principles, metadata management, semantic clarity, data quality, and reusable data design practices.
• Support research data products and use cases across formulation, ingredient discovery, laboratory workflows, and experimental data.
• Work across Science & Research, Data Science & AI, Digital & Technology, and business teams.

Requirements

• Degree in a scientific, engineering, data, informatics, or related discipline.
• Typically 2+ years of relevant experience for Master's or Bachelor's candidates; relevant research and data experience is also considered for PhD candidates.
• Hands-on experience with conceptual, logical, or physical data modeling, including dimensional, Data Vault, semantic, or entity-relationship modeling.
• Experience or strong interest in research, R&D, laboratory, formulation, nutrition, biotech, pharma, microbiome, omics, or related scientific data environments.
• Working knowledge of FAIR principles, metadata, data quality, data governance, stewardship, and reusable data products.
• Knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lake, dbt, SQL, Python, or cloud data platforms, plus strong communication and collaboration skills.
