R&D PhD Summer Intern: Biotechnology

Location: Daily onsite work at the Mason Business and Innovation Center in Mason, United States

Salary: $60.57 per hour

What you will do

• Mine scientific literature for genetic pathways and biosensors related to chemical classes of interest.
• Use genetic engineering tools and analytical techniques to improve and quantify biomolecule production and biosensor function.
• Develop, execute, and analyze experiments independently to characterize and optimize engineered microbial systems.
• Contribute to automation of experiments to improve speed and reliability.
• Deliver chemical and biological solutions across business units within upstream Corporate Functions R&D.

Requirements

• Working toward a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Ability to work safely and independently with prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.
• Excellent microbiology and synthetic biology skills, including sterile technique, microbial cultivation, and common molecular biology tools.
• Basic quantitative and digital laboratory skills for assay design and analysis.
• Availability for a 12-week internship from May or early June through August 2027, working daily onsite.

Nice to have

• Experience developing automated molecular biology workflows.
• Independent experience in analytical chemistry and bioinformatics.
