Staff Security Engineer (Healthcare AI)

Location: Remote, with occasional travel to Garner's headquarters in New York City

Salary: $258,000–$310,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Lead technical security design and review processes for security-critical systems and new features.
• Apply expertise in cloud security, application security, data security, or related domains to solve complex technical and business challenges.
• Evaluate technical direction, identify inefficient approaches, and redirect efforts toward higher-impact security outcomes.
• Build advanced automation for security monitoring and incident response.
• Translate broad security objectives into clear deliverables and architectural requirements for engineering teams.
• Provide rigorous feedback in code and design reviews while mentoring engineers in security-first development.

Requirements

• Strong technical judgment and experience making high-stakes security decisions with long-term impact.
• Strategic problem-solving skills, including root-cause analysis and risk-based prioritization.
• Ability to communicate complex security risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience improving security infrastructure, addressing technical debt, and developing efficient solutions.
• Ability to manage complex escalations and security incidents with disciplined analysis and resolution.
• Experience with relevant technologies such as Python, Kubernetes, Snowflake, AWS, Terraform, Wiz, or Cyberhaven.
