Software Systems Engineer (VB.NET)

Location: Bridgend, South Wales, United Kingdom; on-site 5 days per week. The role includes travel to customer sites, including occasional international travel.

Salary: £60,000–£75,000 per annum, plus benefits.

hirify.global is recruiting for a specialised engineering company that designs and manufactures laser-based machinery for marking, stripping, and processing electrical wire and cable.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance VB.NET software for Windows desktop environments.
• Integrate software with hardware and machinery, ensuring reliable operation in real-world systems.
• Investigate and resolve software and machine issues, including unexpected production problems.
• Fix bugs, modify systems, enhance existing products, and create bespoke customer configurations.
• Work with a large established codebase containing hundreds of libraries and multiple customer configurations.
• Support machinery installation and maintenance, liaising with customers, contractors, and international technical teams.

Requirements

• Strong commercial experience with VB.NET and Windows desktop application development.
• Experience working with hardware, machinery, or control systems.
• Strong software troubleshooting and debugging skills.
• Experience maintaining and enhancing large, complex, or legacy codebases.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to resolve technical issues with customers and technical teams.
• Willingness to travel to client sites, including occasional international travel; security or background checks may be required for some defence-related projects.

• Experience with lasers or laser-based machinery.
• Machine or motion control and PLC experience.
• Software and hardware integration experience.
• Engineering or industrial automation experience.
• Experience in aerospace, defence, medical, automotive, rail, or other high-reliability industries.
