Senior Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite at Bon Secours - St Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA; candidates must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States.

Salary: $18.65–$19.90 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Perform patient admitting, registration, pre-registration, demographic data collection, and insurance information processing.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, verify eligibility and benefits, conduct medical necessity checks, and support clean claims.
• Collect point-of-service payments, explain payment plans and treatment consent forms, and distribute required patient documentation.
• Audit accounts, correct errors, maintain compliance documentation, and provide statistical reporting to patient access leadership.
• Develop training materials, deliver continuing education, and create department staff schedules.
• Provide on-call and after-hours support, including coverage for staffing needs.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of experience in a similar patient access or revenue cycle role.
• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of revenue cycle processes, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
• Knowledge of insurance processes, authorizations, benefits verification, and health insurance requirements.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes.
• Must be able to work onsite in Richmond, VA, reside in the United States, and be authorized to work in the United States.
