TL;DR
Staff HPC Engineer (Aerospace): Building and operating high-performance computing infrastructure for the design and analysis of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations with an accent on cluster architecture, reliability, performance, and engineering software integration. Focus on designing scalable HPC environments, supporting structural and computational fluid dynamics workloads, and leading infrastructure initiatives from concept through production deployment.
Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States
Salary: $171,000–$243,000 USD per year

What you will do
- Build, support, and architect high-performance computing infrastructure.
- Design enhancements that improve HPC performance, usability, and cost efficiency.
- Support engineering teams using HPC for structural, dynamic, mechanical, and computational fluid dynamics analysis.
- Own cluster updates, patching, maintenance, performance, reliability, and the infrastructure lifecycle.
- Integrate HPC with the engineering design cycle, including NX/Teamcenter and post-processing workflows.
- Manage onboarding of applications and users to the HPC environment.
Requirements
- 8+ years of HPC administration, architecture, or relevant industry experience.
- Experience supporting aerospace or related-industry HPC clusters.
- Deep understanding of SLURM and Linux.
- Experience shaping HPC architecture and administration for engineering analysis teams.
- Track record of leading technical initiatives from concept through production deployment.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent experience; must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
Nice to have
- AWS ParallelCluster for HPC and cloud infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Terraform, Puppet, or other infrastructure/configuration-as-code frameworks.
- Experience with on-premises HPC environments, virtualization, compute, storage, networking, and GPU infrastructure.
- Expertise with Nastran, Abaqus, Ansys, STAR-CCM, or Wave6.
- Python or an equivalent scripting language.
