Director, Engineering, Utilities & Electrical

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, United States; global travel to manufacturing sites, engineering partners, suppliers, and strategic project locations is required.

Salary: $182,000–$346,000 USD annual base pay, plus potential long-term incentive programs and benefits.

What you will do

• Own global engineering strategy, standards, design criteria, and technical governance for electrical power systems, clean utilities, black utilities, energy infrastructure, reliability, maintainability, and electrical safety.
• Provide senior engineering leadership for greenfield and brownfield capital investments, capacity programs, modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and lifecycle asset replacement.
• Direct technical decisions for medium- and low-voltage distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, emergency power, UPS, grounding, protection systems, and power quality.
• Set strategies for clean utilities such as purified water, water for injection, clean steam, and process gases, as well as black utilities including plant steam, chilled water, compressed air, nitrogen, and wastewater.
• Lead and develop a global team of electrical and utilities experts while allocating resources across projects, sites, and technology platforms.
• Govern EPCM firms, engineering partners, vendors, and OEMs, and support technical reviews through design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and handover.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline is required; a master's degree or relevant professional qualification is preferred.
• Typically 15 or more years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, utilities engineering, manufacturing engineering, capital projects, or technical operations, including significant leadership responsibility.
• Extensive experience in pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, API, peptide, biologics, sterile, or similarly regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of industrial electrical distribution, emergency power, electrical safety, reliability, power-system studies, clean utilities, black utilities, GMP, validation/CQV, commissioning, and operational readiness.
• Demonstrated ability to lead major capital investments, multiple projects and sites, global matrix teams, technical professionals, and external engineering partners.
• Strong commercial judgment, executive communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, risk-based decision-making, and talent development skills.
