Camera Software Engineering Manager (Automotive)

Location: Palo Alto, California, United States. Hybrid, with a requirement to be onsite four or more days per week.

Salary: $150,200–$283,500 per year

What you will do

• Own end-to-end delivery of in-vehicle camera features across IVI software and embedded camera firmware, from requirements and architecture through production release.
• Lead the technical interface between IVI and camera firmware, including state synchronization, UDS diagnostics, firmware updates, and automotive Ethernet communications.
• Guide video streaming architecture covering live display streaming, H.264/H.265 encoding, ISP configuration, frame-rate and resolution tuning, and latency optimization.
• Coordinate machine-learning and computer-vision capabilities such as object detection, classification, tracking, and camera-based perception.
• Drive integration, bench testing, vehicle validation, defect triage, root-cause analysis, CI quality gates, and coverage requirements.
• Coordinate secure boot, TLS, certificate authentication, key provisioning, OTA distribution, version management, and production flashing workflows.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading or managing teams that delivered shipped products.
• Experience with camera and video software, capture pipelines, ISP, streaming, H.264/H.265 codecs, and latency-sensitive real-time systems.
• Understanding of machine-learning inference and computer-vision workflows on resource-constrained platforms, with experience owning features across application and embedded/firmware layers.
• Strong Linux, system programming, driver integration, CI/CD, automated testing, and code-quality experience.
• Expertise in at least one stack area: IVI with Kotlin/Java, AAOS, Jetpack Compose, and JNI; or embedded systems with C/C++, Linux, RTOS, bootloaders, and device drivers.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility is required at hire.

Nice to have

• Automotive or in-vehicle infotainment software experience.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M SoCs, vision or camera microcontrollers, OTA firmware updates, and multi-target hardware build matrices.
• Familiarity with distributed state synchronization and VHAL integration.
