Materials Engineer (Nuclear)

Salary: $105,000–$130,000 per year, plus equity

hirify.global is a startup developing mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors, including the 1-megawatt Kaleidos reactor.

What you will do

• Plan and execute materials testing to obtain properties that inform design decisions.
• Develop and qualify application-specific manufacturing processes for metals, ceramics, composites, and polymers.
• Provide materials-selection guidance for Kaleidos reactor components.
• Identify, procure, and operate equipment for materials characterization and testing.
• Evaluate the quality and accuracy of material-property data for the company materials database.
• Define and improve component manufacturing processes to achieve desired material properties.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Graduation in December 2026 or Spring 2027.
• Experience developing, testing, or analyzing materials for demanding load cases and environments through projects, laboratory work, research, internships, or employment.
• Hands-on experimental or testing experience in a laboratory or production environment.
• Ability to work on-site in El Segundo, California.
• Capacity to comply with U.S. export controls is required because the position involves access to controlled technology.

Nice to have

• Enrollment in a Master's or PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Nuclear, or Welding Engineering with a materials focus.
• Experience developing and qualifying solid-state materials processing.
• Knowledge of standard materials test methods and development of design allowables.
• Experience with text-based software development tools such as Python.
• Strong organizational, written, oral communication, and collaboration skills.
