Principal Scientist, Protein Biochemistry and Structural Biology

Location: Monrovia, California, United States; full-time onsite

Salary: $180,000–$263,000 annually, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Design protein constructs and lead protein purification strategies across discovery programs.
• Assess crystallography needs to enable programs and validate targets.
• Collaborate with biology, chemistry, platform, screening, data, and computational teams on construct and purified-protein requirements.
• Manage protein-related partnerships and requirements across a network of CROs.
• Guide protein quality control, stability investigations, inventory, registration in Benchling, and protein organization workflows.
• Apply protein design and structural biology to biochemical and biophysical assay development, target validation, and small-molecule hit optimization.

Requirements

• PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field, plus at least 10 years of additional experience.
• Extensive protein purification experience, including construct design, expression, and purification in E. coli, insect, and mammalian systems.
• Experience investigating a broad range of protein families.
• Experience using structural biology and protein structure–function analysis to evaluate drug targets and small-molecule binding.
• Ability to work across multiple concurrent projects in a multidisciplinary, matrixed environment.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

• Hands-on structural biology experience using X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM.
• Experience with software for analyzing structural data and assessing small-molecule binding.
