Freelance Consultant / SME (Underground Development & Drill & Blast Specialist) Metals & Mining

What you will do

• Review procedures across the underground mine development cycle, including drilling, charging, blasting, ventilation, scaling, ground support, mucking, haulage, and mine services.
• Assess alignment between documented procedures, field execution, and industry good practice.
• Identify hazards, credible scenarios, control gaps, and Critical Controls connected with underground development activities.
• Support the development and enhancement of risk-based operational procedures and standards.
• Conduct technical reviews, field observations, interviews, and specialist workshops with operators, supervisors, engineers, and contractors.
• Define operational hold points, authorization requirements, and stop-work criteria, and develop recommendations to improve performance and risk controls.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, including at least 5 years in underground mine development.
• Hands-on experience with mechanized underground development, drilling equipment, charging systems, explosives, LHDs, and underground haulage equipment.
• Experience managing or supervising underground development contractors and improving operational procedures or SOPs.
• Experience with underground mine construction, expansion, operational readiness, or ramp-up activities.
• Strong knowledge of development drilling, charging, blasting, explosives management, blast clearance, exclusion zones, re-entry criteria, ground support, haulage, and underground services.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, strong technical writing skills, and advanced English proficiency required.

Nice to have

• Professional engineering registration or equivalent.
• Additional qualifications in underground mining or blasting.
• Experience in Latin American underground mining operations.
