Director, Cyber Defense (Cybersecurity)

Location: United States

Base salary: $130,200–$241,800 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead and develop the CSIRT, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Detection Engineering, and Data Security Investigations teams.
• Set the cyber defense strategy, roadmap, budget, operating metrics, and risk reporting for senior leadership.
• Own incident response playbooks, severity classification, escalation paths, tabletop exercises, and after-action reviews.
• Act as incident commander for major security incidents and coordinate communication with executives, Legal, Privacy, HR, and external partners.
• Direct threat intelligence collection and distribution, detection content priorities, threat hunting, automation, and MITRE ATT&CK-aligned coverage.
• Lead sensitive investigations involving inappropriate data access, privacy, insider risk, evidence handling, chain of custody, and regulatory or legal exposure.

Requirements

• 10+ years of cybersecurity experience, including 5+ years leading incident response, security operations, or a similar function.
• Experience managing managers, building teams, and leading security operations at scale.
• Direct experience with sensitive data privacy, insider-risk, or employee-conduct investigations in partnership with Legal or HR.
• Working knowledge of threat intelligence, SIEM and EDR detection content, use-case design, and frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.
• Experience leading live incidents and communicating clearly with non-technical executives under pressure.
• Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, and similar privacy and data protection regulations, plus a related bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Nice to have

• Experience in travel, hospitality, financial services, or another sector handling high volumes of personal and payment data.
• CISSP, GCIH, GCFA, GCTI, or an equivalent certification.
• Experience with 24/7 or global follow-the-sun security operations.
• Experience working with outside counsel, forensics vendors, or law enforcement during significant incidents.
