Principal Process Engineer, Injection Molding - NMPH - Rice Creek/Fridley, MN (Onsite) (Medical Devices)

Location: Fridley, Minnesota, United States; minimum of four days onsite each week in a laboratory and engineering development environment. Up to 25% travel may be required.

Salary: $128,800–$193,200 per year in U.S. locations excluding Puerto Rico and specific California locations.

What you will do

• Lead manufacturing feasibility assessments and process development for novel implantable medical device concepts.
• Develop and evaluate proof-of-concept methods for implantable assemblies, stimulation leads, and miniature electromechanical components.
• Drive rapid prototyping and experimentation to evaluate manufacturability, process capability, failure mechanisms, and design tradeoffs.
• Provide technical leadership in micro-insert molding, over-molding, precision injection molding, mold tool design, lead assembly, and precision assembly.
• Apply Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles with research and development teams.
• Collaborate with manufacturing sites, contract manufacturers, tooling vendors, and automation suppliers to transition prototype processes into scalable production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, biomedical, or related engineering with at least 7 years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with at least 5 years or a PhD with at least 3 years.
• Demonstrated expertise in micro-insert molding and over-molding, including mold tool design, process development, and molding process optimization.
• Experience developing, characterizing, and troubleshooting processes for precision-engineered products or assemblies.
• Experience designing and executing process characterization studies and Design of Experiments to establish process capability and operating windows.
• Ability to work onsite at the Rice Creek facility in Fridley at least four days per week.
• For degrees earned outside the United States, a qualifying degree under 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with implantable lead manufacturing, conductor assembly, or other implantable medical device processes.
• Experience with precision assembly automation, fixture design, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
• Experience with early feasibility manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and iterative product development.
• Experience transferring processes from development or pilot environments into commercial-scale production.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers, tooling suppliers, and external development partners.
