TL;DR
Staff Thermomechanical Process Development Engineer (Nitinol/Medical Devices): Developing, optimizing, validating, and transferring thermomechanical production processes for Nitinol medical devices with an accent on precision tooling, heat treatment, forming, and data-driven process characterization. Focus on designing fixtures and tooling, applying DOE and statistical analysis, investigating root causes, and supporting manufacturing transfer and continuous improvement.

Location: Fremont, United States; onsite

Salary: $103,900–$173,100 per year

Medical device manufacturer developing Nitinol components, balloon catheters, delivery systems, biomedical textiles, access kits, and guidewires from prototype through high-volume production.

What you will do

  • Develop, optimize, validate, and transfer thermomechanical production processes for Nitinol medical devices.
  • Design high-precision fixtures and tooling for forming, heat treatment, crimping, honing, and related processes.
  • Use statistical analysis and Design of Experiments to characterize processes, identify key parameters, and optimize performance.
  • Investigate process, tooling, and product issues, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
  • Analyze process and product data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare manufacturing documentation, support training and validation, and collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, operators, and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 5 years of related engineering experience; Mechanical or Materials Engineering preferred.
  • Experience designing high-precision mechanical components and creating, interpreting, and updating engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, materials science, and metallurgical principles.
  • SolidWorks modeling and drawing experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and independent execution skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NiTi materials.
  • Experience with Minitab or JMP.
  • Familiarity with metalworking and machining processes.
