Research Scientist I (Extractables and Leachables)

Location: Round Lake, Illinois, United States; hybrid work with a required minimum number of onsite days each week

Salary: $104,000–$143,000 annually, plus potential discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Lead extractables and leachables studies, including analytical method development, validation, transfer, and lifecycle support.
• Plan and execute laboratory experiments using LC, GC, ICP, MS, sample preparation, and wet chemistry techniques.
• Collaborate with Regulatory, Toxicology, Quality, Manufacturing, Project Management, and R&D teams on product development and compliance.
• Investigate OOS, OOT, and atypical results using scientific judgment and root cause analysis.
• Interpret complex analytical data and communicate clear recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Author protocols, validation reports, SOPs, and technical documentation while supporting operational excellence and mentoring colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 3+ years, or PhD with applicable analytical chemistry experience.
• Hands-on experience with wet chemistry, GC/MS, GC/FID, LC/MS, mass spectrometry, and related instrumental analysis.
• Experience developing, validating, and transferring analytical methods in a regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of ICH, USP, cGxP, and method validation requirements.
• Proficiency with MassHunter, Empower, Chromeleon, e-Noval, or similar analytical data systems.
• Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, data analysis, communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
