What you will do
- Own the spacecraft thermal architecture throughout the mission lifecycle and define thermal control strategies for spacecraft and payloads.
- Lead thermal design trade-offs covering passive and active thermal control solutions.
- Define thermal requirements, subsystem allocations, budgets, margins, and verification strategies.
- Lead thermal modelling, analysis, and model correlation across all mission phases.
- Define thermal hardware architectures including MLI, coatings, heaters, radiators, heat pipes, thermal straps, and temperature sensors.
- Coordinate with mechanical, propulsion, avionics, and systems engineers, while supporting design reviews, testing, customers, suppliers, and partners.
Requirements
- 10+ years of spacecraft thermal engineering experience.
- Experience as a lead thermal engineer, principal thermal engineer, or thermal architect on spacecraft developments.
- Strong knowledge of spacecraft thermal control systems, thermal analysis methodologies, mathematical models, and correlation activities.
- Proficiency with thermal analysis software and CAD tools, especially ESATAN-TMS.
- Experience defining thermal requirements, budgets, system-level trades, and supporting thermal vacuum testing and environmental verification campaigns.
- Familiarity with ECSS thermal engineering standards and the ability to lead technical discussions and defend architectural decisions.
Nice to have
- MSc or PhD in aerospace engineering, thermal engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or a similar discipline.
- Experience across LEO, MEO, and GEO missions.
- Familiarity with launch vehicle thermal environments.
- Leadership and mentoring experience.
- Experience working directly with ESA or other institutional customers.
