Senior Software Engineer (Autonomous Driving)

Location: Remote from Toronto or Vancouver, Canada

Salary: CA$160,000–CA$200,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and implement behavior planning algorithms for autonomous vehicles operating in structured, low-speed airport environments.
• Own key behavior-planner modules that connect mission-level goals with motion-level execution.
• Develop efficient and scalable software in modern C++ and Python.
• Test and validate planning systems in simulation and real-world scenarios.
• Analyze system performance, optimize behavior-planning software, and improve handling of dynamic edge cases.
• Collaborate with autonomy, planning, and other engineering teams on system integration and documentation.

Requirements

• Proficiency in modern C++ and object-oriented programming.
• Strong Python skills for rapid prototyping and testing.
• At least 3 years of industry experience in autonomous driving, robotics, or a related field.
• Deep understanding of state machines, behavior trees, probabilistic planning, and decision-making under uncertainty.
• Experience with path-planning methods such as A*, D*, RRT, or optimization-based approaches.
• Strong debugging, profiling, code optimization, and real-time systems skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, AI, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with machine learning for behavior prediction and planning.
• Experience with ROS or ROS2.
• Experience building high-frequency replanning systems for dynamic environments.
• Knowledge of optimization techniques, probabilistic models, planning, or control theory.
