Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Carlos, California, with 3+ days per week onsite and remote work available on remaining days. All work must be performed in the United States.

Salary: $135,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy robotic and embedded software for advanced pilot assistance systems.
• Develop autonomy features and subsystems from implementation through deployment, prioritizing reliability and performance.
• Write, test, and maintain production-quality Python and C++ across autonomy, systems, and embedded components.
• Integrate software with hardware, sensors, perception systems, and data ingestion pipelines.
• Optimize software for edge computing environments, including latency and resource usage.
• Participate in testing, validation, design reviews, code reviews, and deployment with senior engineers and cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building robotic software or embedded systems, or equivalent project, internship, or coursework experience.
• Production-quality programming experience in C++ and/or Python.
• Familiarity with real-time or interactive systems supporting time-sensitive user decisions.
• Exposure to autonomy systems such as planning, decision-making, or reasoning, and to sensor or perception pipelines.
• Experience with embedded or edge computing platforms and hardware/software debugging.
• Must be a U.S. Person and able to perform all work in the United States due to U.S. export control regulations.

Nice to have

• Experience with safety-critical or mission-critical systems, aviation, or robotics.
• Exposure to ROS or DDS.
• Interest in human-in-the-loop systems, simulation, or real-time control.
• Background or strong interest in autonomy, robotics, or advanced mobility.
