Bio Medical Technician II (Medical Equipment)

Location: Thomas Memorial Hospital, South Charleston, West Virginia, United States. The role may require travel to other WVUHS facilities or affiliated sites.

What you will do

• Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair general patient care, diagnostic, and selected life support equipment.
• Complete at least 95% of assigned scheduled inspections each month and perform additional inspections across hospital departments.
• Evaluate equipment utilization, inspection criteria, replacement needs, and new technologies to improve patient care and control costs.
• Coordinate assigned projects and technical tasks, document risks and issues, track schedules, and support implementations and change control.
• Provide instruction and assistance to hospital staff, participate in multidisciplinary teams, and communicate project and service status.
• Accept on-call responsibilities and respond by phone or on site according to department policy.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics Technology, or an equivalent field and two years of relevant repair and maintenance experience; alternatively, completion of a U.S. DoD Biomedical Equipment Maintenance Technician program and two years of experience, or a high school diploma and four years of experience.
• Demonstrated competency in at least five equipment areas, such as patient monitoring, defibrillators, EKG/stress testing, infusion pumps, electrosurgical units, fetal monitors, surgical video systems, or related systems.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively under high-stress conditions while handling confidential information and meeting deadlines.
• Strong reading, comprehension, typing, prioritization, oral communication, and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift, pull, or push 45–50 pounds and frequently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift, and grasp.
• Ability to work around patient body fluids, electrical current, radiation, hazardous lasers, chemicals, and other hospital hazards.

Nice to have

• Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certification administered by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology.
