Japanese Sports Localization Specialist (Football)

What you will do

• Review, translate, localize, fact-check, and adapt football and other sports content for Japanese audiences.
• Apply style guides, terminology standards, linguistic guidelines, and quality requirements.
• Research Japanese content trends, audience preferences, terminology, and localization practices.
• Assess linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, readability, tone, and consistency.
• Provide editorial feedback and identify opportunities to improve localization quality.
• Support quality control across multimedia and other sports-related content formats.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and/or at least 2 years of professional experience in linguistics, translation, localization, sports journalism, copywriting, copy-editing, or a related field.
• Extensive knowledge of football, including terminology, competitions, players, teams, and fan culture.
• Experience translating and localizing multimedia content; machine translation and language evaluation experience is advantageous.
• Native-level Japanese fluency with excellent grammar, writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
• Excellent written English and the ability to accurately understand source content.
• Strong creative writing, editorial, research, cultural-awareness, attention-to-detail, and independent-working skills.
• Confidence using computers, mobile devices, word processors, and spreadsheets; a licensed version of Microsoft Office is required.

Nice to have

• Published sports-related work for established media platforms or similar outlets.
• Experience with sports media platforms, live-score applications, or sports streaming services.
• Familiarity with Gen Z communication, football fan culture, and pop-culture audiences.
