TL;DR
Space Systems Engineer (Space Operations) (satellite operations/Python): Operating and improving a large Earth-observation satellite constellation through fleet checks, anomaly resolution, flight software deployment, and operational software development with an accent on automation, data analysis, and mission-critical reliability. Focus on debugging spacecraft anomalies, running on-orbit experiments, building monitoring metrics, and shaping operational strategies for next-generation spacecraft.

Location: Berlin, Germany; hybrid work with attendance at the Berlin office 3 days per week

Salary: €48,100–€60,100 gross per year in Germany

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates a large constellation of Earth-observation imaging satellites and delivers satellite data through a cloud-based platform.

What you will do

  • Conduct daily fleet checks and support on-call operations.
  • Test and deploy flight software upgrades, debug satellite anomalies, and run on-orbit experiments.
  • Develop and maintain real-time, mission-critical software for satellite operations.
  • Write scripts to aggregate satellite data and generate system monitoring metrics.
  • Analyze operational data, identify inefficiencies, and improve fleet capacity and productivity.
  • Provide technical feedback to launch, manufacturing, and spacecraft engineering teams while shaping next-generation operational strategies.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in software development, particularly Python or similar languages.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and a data-driven approach to problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with the space environment and its challenges.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required.

Nice to have

  • Agile software development experience.
  • DevOps experience with tools such as Git, GitLab, Docker, Jenkins, Bash, Linux, CI/CD, Sentry, or Datadog.
  • Hands-on experience operating spacecraft or remote systems.
  • Experience with automation, optimization, and practical data analysis.
  • Open-source software contributions.
