Founding Software Engineer (AI/Finance)

Location: New York, onsite

Salary: $200,000–$300,000 base per year plus equity; flexibility is available for exceptional candidates.

Early-stage AI company building an operating system for the CFO’s office through audit-ready AI agents and unified financial context.

What you will do

• Own the agent harness and shared platform rails used to build audit-grade AI agents.
• Define abstractions for context, verification, guardrails, evaluations, observability, and developer tooling.
• Design financial context graphs covering ledger state, policies, contracts, precedents, and entitlements.
• Build multi-tenant-safe systems for financial data ingestion, normalization, reconciliation, and canonical ledger models.
• Establish verification, auditability, reliability, and exactly-once write-back standards for systems of record.
• Work directly with engineers, accountants, controllers, finance teams, customers, founders, and domain experts to turn complex workflows into reusable systems.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering and systems-design fundamentals.
• Deep backend experience with Python, Go, Java, Rust, or a similar language; Python is the core stack and TypeScript is used where needed.
• Experience with distributed systems, data infrastructure, workflow engines, transactional systems, integration platforms, or AI/agent platforms.
• Experience building frameworks, infrastructure, or abstractions that improve engineering effectiveness.
• Excellent technical and product judgment, high ownership, and a focus on correctness and customer outcomes.
• Comfort working full-stack when needed and using AI coding agents and modern developer tooling as part of daily engineering practice.

Nice to have

• Production experience with AI agent platforms, context systems, evaluations, verification, guardrails, or orchestration.
• Experience with accounting, fintech, ERP, payments, treasury, audit, compliance, or ledger systems.
• Familiarity with SOX, SOC 1/2, financial audits, or other regulated environments.
• Early-stage or high-growth startup experience.
• Competitive programming, mathematics, physics, or Olympiad background.
