Legal Counsel (Derivatives & Trading)

What you will do

• Advise business development, trading, treasury, risk, and clearing teams on derivatives, financing, and other trading-related agreements.
• Lead negotiations with derivatives and financing counterparties across asset classes.
• Develop contract strategies, explain contractual risks and obligations, and recommend practical alternatives.
• Identify regulatory issues related to derivatives trading and coordinate risk mitigation with compliance, internal stakeholders, and external counsel.
• Collaborate with global legal team members across time zones and support internal legal initiatives.

Requirements

• Admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong or another comparable jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of post-qualification experience.
• Full professional proficiency in Mandarin.
• Substantial experience negotiating trading documentation, including ISDA documentation, prime brokerage, futures and OTC clearing, repurchase, and electronic trading agreements.
• Working knowledge of derivatives and trading regulations, with experience on derivatives transactions in the Asia Pacific region.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, communication abilities, commercial judgment, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Prior in-house legal experience, particularly at a financial services firm.
