Systems Engineer (USV)

Location: Plymouth, remote, UK; travel within the UK and Europe and to South West England test locations is required when needed

What you will do

• Lead system integration for unmanned surface vehicle product development and upgrades from concept through delivery.
• Define system architecture, interfaces, technical trade studies, sizing, and performance assessments.
• Design communications pathways, distribution, redundancy, layouts, and system plans across mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.
• Create Interface Control Documents and coordinate payload, custom hardware, and software integration with internal teams, suppliers, and customers.
• Lead verification, validation, acceptance testing, sea trials, bench builds, and hands-on vessel testing, including VLOS/BVLOS activities.
• Analyze test telemetry, identify failure modes and trends, and contribute to uptime, reliability, and predictive maintenance improvements.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Systems, Maritime, Aerospace, Electrical, or a related engineering discipline.
• Significant systems engineering experience with complex autonomous systems platforms.
• Practical experience integrating power systems, RF/EMC, EO sensors, networking, embedded controllers, and payload interfaces.
• Experience applying V-Model techniques within engineering design projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with an organized, detail-oriented approach.
• UK Security clearance or eligibility to obtain UK defence clearance is preferred, with the ability to travel to South West England when required.

Nice to have

• Maritime product development experience and familiarity with MCT, IMO, or DNV standards.
• Experience in startup or scale-up environments involving rapid prototyping and iterative testing.
