Senior Mission Concept Engineer (Space)

Location: Hybrid in Harwell, UK; Porto, Portugal; Barcelona, Spain; or Athens, Greece. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

• Lead the design of complex Earth observation, telecommunications, and technology demonstration missions.
• Define end-to-end mission architectures across space, ground, and launch segments.
• Engage institutional and commercial customers to refine requirements and shape technically robust solutions.
• Lead and contribute to proposals, including technical definition, cost realism, feasibility assessments, and concept iteration.
• Structure consortiums and partnerships across the mission value chain while coordinating engineering, project management, and commercial inputs.
• Develop tools and models for assessing mission performance, risk, cost, and schedule; mentor team members and advance mission design capabilities.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience defining and analysing complex space missions across the mission lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of areas such as constellation sizing, orbital analysis, payload integration, communications, AOCS, or system trades.
• Specialisation in a mission domain such as embedded software, satellite operations, mission control systems, or flight dynamics.
• Experience leading technical workstreams or proposals in commercial or institutional contexts, including ESA, UKSA, or EC programmes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and storytelling skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• English required for the application and CV; legal right to work in the selected location required.
