Principal Analytical Scientist (Automation)

Location: Rensselaer, New York (Tempel Lane), onsite. Monday–Friday, first shift. The role requires work in a GMP analytical laboratory with extended standing, laboratory equipment handling, gowning, and PPE.

Salary: $92,200–$150,600 annually.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, optimization, and scaling of automated assay workflows across laboratory platforms.
• Apply analytical expertise in mass spectrometry, chromatography, bioassay, electrophoresis, and ELISA.
• Design and execute studies for emerging automation technologies and troubleshoot automated systems.
• Lead investigations into automated method performance and drive continuous improvement.
• Transfer automated workflows to QC and partner functions through training materials, transfer plans, and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate analytical and automation initiatives, collaborate with vendors, prepare scientific reports and SOPs, and mentor scientists.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience in analytical development, laboratory automation, and QC method lifecycle management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hands-on expertise with automated liquid-handling platforms and associated software programming.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or VBA for data analysis, workflow automation, or system integration.
• Deep knowledge of QC analytical techniques, including mass spectrometry, chromatography, electrophoresis, bioassay, or ELISA.
• Ability to work independently, design scientifically sound studies, and drive projects to completion.
• Ability to work onsite in the Rensselaer GMP laboratory environment and comply with gowning and PPE requirements.

Nice to have

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.
• Experience in a cGMP or cGLP regulated environment.
• Familiarity with Cellario, Venus by Hamilton, or OneLab by Andrew+.
• Experience developing and executing technology transfer plans across QC or partner functions.
