Principal Mechanical Engineer (Defence Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical building services from concept development through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
• Provide technical leadership for HVAC, ventilation, chilled and heating water systems, building automation interfaces, specialist Defence facility services, and energy-efficient solutions.
• Act as lead mechanical discipline engineer on multidisciplinary projects, ensuring technical quality and compliance with Defence requirements, Australian Standards, and project specifications.
• Manage mechanical deliverables, resources, budgets, and program requirements.
• Build relationships with Defence clients, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
• Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, calculations, design documentation, and engineering assessments while mentoring engineers, designers, and graduates.

Requirements

• Extensive mechanical building services experience, ideally in Defence or other government, infrastructure, transport, health, or complex built-environment sectors.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC design principles, mechanical building services systems, and Defence infrastructure requirements.
• Experience managing technical delivery within multidisciplinary teams and on large-scale projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status or the ability to obtain chartership.
• Baseline Security Clearance is preferred, or the ability to obtain and maintain it.
