Principal Algorithm Engineer (EO/IR Image Analysis)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. This is an onsite role supporting space-based sensor payloads and may require travel or off-site work. U.S. citizenship is required, along with eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance. U.S. office roles are subject to ITAR work-authorization requirements.

Base salary: $259,000–$370,000 USD annually. Total compensation, including equity: $370,275–$626,600 USD annually.

What you will do

• Develop, optimize, validate, and deploy complex EO/IR image-processing chains for real-time space-based sensor payloads.
• Build optical sensor modeling and simulation frameworks and synthesize mission imagery for machine-learning training and algorithm validation.
• Apply classical and deep-learning computer-vision methods to detect and track low-SNR objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Transition image-processing algorithms into high-performance real-time implementations with software and firmware teams.
• Analyze large EO/IR datasets, assess algorithm performance, and improve deployed systems for reliability.
• Document and present results to technical, non-technical, and government stakeholders, and represent the organization in technical interchange meetings.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of experience, master’s degree with 8+ years, or Ph.D. with 5+ years in a relevant technical discipline and demonstrated image-processing or EO/IR experience.
• Strong experience designing, implementing, testing, and optimizing image-processing and computer-vision algorithms for EO/IR sensors.
• Experience with image stabilization and registration, 3-D multi-view camera modeling, pose reconstruction, object detection and tracking, and background suppression.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with image-system modeling and simulation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership capability, and the ability to contribute to high-performance engineering teams.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Strong mathematics background, particularly in linear algebra.
• Experience with deep-learning computer vision, space-looking or space-based imaging systems, and EO/IR sensor calibration.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and experience across the full product-development lifecycle.
• Technical or functional leadership experience and TS/SCI clearance.
