R&D Engineer 3 (Medical Devices)

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of medical products from initial concept through full-scale production.
• Provide technical leadership for small- to medium-sized projects and oversee subsystems, milestones, budgets, and schedules.
• Assign work and provide direction to engineers, technicians, and administrative staff while mentoring junior engineers.
• Formulate and resolve complex technical problems using research, experimentation, computational analysis, and specialized engineering expertise.
• Prepare and review engineering reports, protocols, verification and validation materials, requirements, and risk documentation.
• Build cross-functional relationships and identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with research and development experience in the medical device industry.
• At least 5 years of experience in new product development and/or the medical device industry with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 3 years with a master’s degree.
• Experience with manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, joining methods, and rapid prototyping.
• Experience with experimental design, computational analysis, Design of Experiments, statistical methods, DFSS, and Minitab.
• Proficiency in tolerance stack-up analysis, DFM, GD&T, technical writing, and advanced CAD; SolidWorks is preferred.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, use hands for handling tasks, communicate verbally, and lift or move up to 25 pounds; travel may be required up to 10%.

Nice to have

• Experience with radiofrequency ablation, energy delivery, tissue testing, and tissue model development.
• Experience developing electromechanical medical devices, including disposable and reusable instruments.
• Clinical and technical knowledge of gynecological surgery or a related surgical field.
• Experience translating clinical, physician, and customer requirements into product and design requirements.
