Senior Software Engineer (C++/Python/Ruby)

Location: Remote within Canada

Salary: CA$138.9K–CA$187.9K annually in Toronto and Vancouver; CA$126.2K–CA$170.8K annually in other Canadian locations. Equity and bonus opportunities are available.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend systems and computation engines for solar and electrical design workflows.
• Advance simulation and optimization for PV and battery storage layouts, component selection, and electrical configuration.
• Translate physical models and engineering constraints into reliable, scalable software with product, design, research, and engineering partners.
• Shape simulation and computation infrastructure for correctness, performance, and maintainability.
• Write tested code, contribute to technical discussions and design reviews, and mentor teammates.
• Own services end to end, including participation in an on-call rotation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend foundation.
• Academic background or equivalent expertise in computational mathematics, optimization, linear algebra, control theory, or numerical algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with simulation or optimization and strong algorithmic reasoning about performance, correctness, and edge cases.
• Experience designing APIs, microservices, or data pipelines at scale.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages; the primary stack includes C++, Python, and Ruby.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration on a distributed team.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field.
• Knowledge of solar PV, battery technology, or electrical engineering.
• Experience with cloud-native compute infrastructure and batch or distributed processing systems.
• Interest in renewable energy and accelerating the transition to solar.
• Experience working effectively in changing, fast-paced problem spaces.
